Classic & Custom Wiring

Classic Car and Truck Wiring in Rio Grande City, TX

Old vehicles are a different kind of electrical work. Wiring diagrams are thin or missing, insulation has gone brittle, and fifty years of previous owners have each added their own splice. We enjoy this work, and we have the patience it takes.

What we do on classic and custom builds

  • Complete harness replacement and custom harness fabrication
  • 6-volt to 12-volt conversions, including generator to alternator
  • LED headlight, tail light and turn signal upgrades
  • Gauge cluster wiring, senders and aftermarket instrument installs
  • Ignition system upgrades and electronic conversions
  • Fuse block and relay upgrades to carry modern accessory loads
  • Sorting out decades of previous repairs, splices and add-ons

Rewiring is safer than patching

On a vehicle past forty years old, the wiring insulation has usually hardened and cracked, the original fuse block is undersized for anything added since, and previous repairs were made with whatever was in the drawer that day. Chasing one fault at a time on a harness in that condition is expensive and never really finished.

A full rewire with a proper fuse block gives you a documented, labeled system you can actually troubleshoot later. On a vehicle you intend to keep and drive, it is the repair that ends the problem instead of postponing it.

Cars we have worked on

Mid-century Chevrolet and Ford pickups, British roadsters like the MG Midget, muscle era GM trucks, and custom builds with modern drivetrains under old sheet metal. If it has wires in it and somebody cares about it, bring it by.

Classic & Custom Wiring questions we get asked

Can you convert my 6-volt classic to 12 volts?

Yes. A 6 to 12 volt conversion involves the battery, generator or alternator, starter, coil, gauges, lights and any accessory motors. Done properly it makes an old vehicle far more usable, with brighter lights and reliable starting. We will walk you through what your specific vehicle needs before starting.

My classic has no wiring diagram. Can you still work on it?

Yes. Many of the vehicles we rewire arrive with no usable diagram, or with a diagram that no longer matches what is in the car after decades of changes. We trace and document circuits as we go, and you get a labeled system at the end.

Do you install LED lighting on older vehicles?

Yes, and it is one of the most worthwhile upgrades on an older vehicle. LED headlights and tail lights draw far less current and are dramatically brighter, though turn signals usually need load resistors or an LED compatible flasher to signal at the correct speed. We handle that as part of the install.

Got a problem nobody else could figure out?

That is usually when people call us. Tell us what the vehicle is doing and we will tell you straight whether we can help.
