Car & Truck A/C Repair

Car and Truck A/C Repair in Rio Grande City, TX

In South Texas an air conditioner is not a luxury. We repair automotive A/C on cars, pickups, work trucks and buses, and because we are an electrical shop we catch the control side faults that get missed when a system is only ever recharged.

A recharge is a test result, not a repair

Refrigerant does not get used up. If your system is low, it is leaking somewhere, and topping it off buys a few weeks before you are back where you started. We find the leak first, using dye or an electronic detector, then quote the actual repair.

Just as often the refrigerant is fine and the problem is electrical. A failed pressure switch, relay, clutch coil, blend door actuator or blower resistor will leave you with warm air while the system itself is sealed and healthy.

A/C work we handle

  • Leak detection and repair at hoses, O-rings, condensers and evaporators
  • Compressor, clutch and clutch coil replacement
  • Blower motors, blower resistors and speed controls that only work on high
  • Pressure switches, relays and A/C control circuits
  • Blend door actuators that leave you stuck on hot or cold
  • Condenser and cooling fan faults that cause poor cooling in traffic
  • Evacuate and recharge to factory specification after repair

Why your A/C only blows cold while moving

If your air is cold at highway speed and warm at a stoplight, the system is usually fine and the cooling fan is not. Airflow across the condenser at speed does the fan's job for it. That is an electrical fault: a fan motor, a relay, a temperature switch or the circuit feeding it. It is a common call for us in July.

Car & Truck A/C Repair questions we get asked

How much does a car A/C repair cost?

It depends entirely on what failed. A blower resistor or relay is a modest repair. A leaking O-ring is inexpensive once it is found. A compressor or evaporator replacement is a much larger job because of the labor to access it. We diagnose first and quote the specific repair before starting work.

Why is my A/C blowing warm air?

The most common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor clutch that is not engaging, a failed blower or blend door actuator, or an electrical fault in the control circuit. Because several of these look identical from the driver seat, the system needs to be tested rather than guessed at.

Do you service A/C on work trucks and buses?

Yes. We service air conditioning on passenger vehicles, work trucks, shuttle buses and emergency vehicles, including systems on 24-volt electrical.

Got a problem nobody else could figure out?

That is usually when people call us. Tell us what the vehicle is doing and we will tell you straight whether we can help.
